Josh* was living in family debt, his mother having recently left his abusive father. His older brother had joined a violent gang, and Josh was showing aggressive behaviour and dropping out of school.
That’s when Josh was matched with one of our trained Volunteer Mentors, John*. Mentoring helped Josh feel motivated to try education again. He had not sat GCSEs, but John helped him get references to get into college and study GCSEs and carpentry.
Josh now has a bright future and acts like a different young man: calm, focused and with self-control and reduced anger. The whole family’s home life has calmed down; he’s an excellent role model for his younger sisters… life is much easier.
